Medicare Advantage Plans

Sometimes called Part C, Medicare Advantage is a type of Medicare Health plan, offered by private insurance companies, approved by Medicare, and Medicare pays the companies to cover your Medicare benefits. Joining a Medicare Advantage plan will provide all of your Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) Part B (Medical Insurance) and most Medicare Advantage plans include Part D (Prescription Drug coverage). Medicare Advantage plans include extra benefits that traditional Medicare does not offer. Medicare Advantage plans are not Medicare Supplement plans.

Dual Special Needs Plans (DSNP)

Type of Medicare Advantage plan providing specialized health care for specific groups, for example, those with Medicare and Medicaid, live in a nursing home, or have certain chronic medical conditions, may be able to take advantage of extra benefits from these types of plans.

Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare Supplements Also referred to as "Medigap" Insurance plan that helps cover the gaps in coverage that are left after traditional Medicare pays its portion of your health care expenses. To enroll, you must be enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B. When shopping for a "Medigap" or Medicare Supplement policy, you'll notice there are 10 types of plan, all with there own set of benefits. Benefits with these plans, are standardized by law, meaning the benefits of any plan you choose, will be the same regardless the company you purchase it from, although, it is important to know that the rates are not standardized, so your premium will vary depending on the insurer you purchase it from.

Prescription Drug Plans (PDP)

Often referred to as "stand alone" and generally may purchased with a Medicare Supplement plan to supplement Original Medicare, as they are both purchased separately. It is very common to have a part D plan from one insurer, and Medicare Supplement plan from another insurer.
